Update 28 December 2012 | The Beehive Grant web page has been updated to include a link to an online grant application. The application will be activated on January 1,2013. The link to the application will take users to a log-in page for the Beehive Grants Program Online Registration.
First time users will need to create a VDACS Online Account using the link on the Online Registration web page. A VDACS Online Account may be created prior to the January 1 start date for the grant. However, individuals will not be able to log on to submit a grant application until January 1, 2013.
Once activated the information and documentation required in order to apply for a Beehive Grant may be submitted through the online application. Along with the online application, applicants may submit electronic copies of a ‘Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification’ form (IRS Form W-9) and any itemized receipts from the purchase of qualified items.
Applicants may also send required documentation to the mailing address or FAX number below. Applications will not be processed until a completed application and required documentation are received. Please be advised that processing of applications received by mail or fax may be delayed.
Update 21 December 2012 | The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has developed an on-line application for this grant. The application will be available on the agency website beginning January 1, 2013.
Use of the on-line application will facilitate submission and processing of applicant requests. Completed applications will be processed in the order in which they are received. Upon completion of an application individuals will be registered with VDACS as a beekeeper.
The on-line application will not be available prior to January 1, 2013. Purchases of a new hive or supplies to construct a new hive prior this date are not eligible for the grant. Posting the application prior to January 1st may mislead individuals to believe purchases prior to this date would qualify for the Beehive Grant.
Update 19 December 2012 | The Virginia General Assembly appropriated $125,000 for this program for Fiscal Year 2013 (July 2012 to June 2013) and $125,000 for Fiscal Year 2014 (July 2013 to June 2014). However, during the upcoming legislative session, the General Assembly will consider proposed amendments to the state budget that include the possible deferral of funding for the beehive grant fund program. In spite of this funding uncertainty, VDACS will proceed to accept applications in accordance with the guidelines and requirements for qualification under this program but cautions applicants that they may or may not receive payments depending on the outcome of the state budget negotiations. A final determination on applications cannot be made until the state budget is finalized sometime in April 2013.
