Speakers include:

Dr. Diana Sammataro, retired researcher at the USDA-ARS Carl Hayden Honey Bee Research Center and author of The Beekeepers Handbook presenting Microbes and Bees as well as Honey Bee Plants.

Dr. Rebecca Masterman, University of Minnesota Bee Squad Associate Program Director will share Keeping Bees Healthy: Updates on Bee Research, Management and MiteCheck plus lead a workshop on Making Mite Monitoring Fun.

Dr. Lisa Horth, Associate Professor of Biology at Old Dominium University & VSBA grant recipient will present the results of her research in Assessing the current genetic evidence of disease in honey and native bees in VA as well as Consider the Ultraviolet: What Bees See and Why It Matters.

Samuel Ramsey, PhD student at Dr. Dennis vanEngelsdorp's lab at the University of Maryland will present his groundbreaking research Varroa destructor Feed on Hemolymph & Two Other "Alternative Facts"

Marc Puckett, Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will explain how quail habitat restoration programs benefit beekeepers in The Bobwhites and the Bees.

Virginia Beekeepers are also part of the program:  Mike Church will present his experience using Oxalic acid; and John Davis will share how he rears queens in his Richmond apiary; and Theo Hartman will give us an update on the Broodminder Citizen Science Project.

A buffet style dinner is offered Friday evening for $9 per person with more presentations following dinner. A buffet style lunch is available for $9 on Saturday.

On-line registration is available HERE to current VSBA members and expired/non-members via credit card through June 9, 2017. An early registration discount is provided until May 20, 2017.

Walk-in Registration (cash or check only) begins on Friday, June 16 at 12 noon with the meeting beginning at 1pm. Registration will re-open on Saturday morning at 8:00am.
