Beekeepers are encouraged to obtain queens and bees from local sources to avoid importing pests and diseases into their area.
Beekeepers Guild members are eligible for the Guild's Nuc Program.
Hives containing Africanized Honey Bees (AHB) have been identified in several states throughout the south and southwest U.S. A map of the AHB distribution in the U.S. is available on the USDA Web site. Queen and package producers in states known to contain AHB infestations must provide proof of European Honey Bee certification before shipping to Virginia.
