Speakers include:
  • Heather Trobaugh, of the USDA Farm Services Agency, who will provide details on the Federal Government's ELAP program for emergency assistance with honey bee losses.
Two researchers with Bugonia, an online database where beekeepers can participate in a citizen science approach to research, will share their current projects. 
  • Izzy Hill, Director of the Center for Urban Bee Research and affiliated with the Mid-Atlantic Apicultural Research and Extension Consortium (MAAREC) will present her work on Beekeepers Using Nematodes to Control Hive Beetles-BUNCH.  Izzy will follow it up with a DIY presentation on how beekeeepers can rear entomopathogenic nematodes for pest control.
  • Katy Evans, graduate student at the University of Delaware will present her research on Testing the Efficacy of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Programs for Controlling Varroa destructor. Specifically, whether splitting colonies reduces mite populations and mite-vectored viruses.
