The Beekeepers' Guild of Southeast Virginia meets on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 PM in Towne Hall, a wing of Towne Bank located at 137 Mount Pleasant Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322. (click here for directions).

Meetings are very informal, lasting 1½ to 2 hours. They consist of an educational program followed by a refreshment break and a business meeting open to the public. Our members hail from the Eastern Shore to Emporia, Moyock to Williamsburg. They are beginning beekeepers and experienced beekeeping mentors ready to assist anyone wishing to get started in beekeeping.

Please join us for socializing and the meeting whether you currently keep bees or not. Everybody is welcome!


2018 Calendar:

January 8, 2018 - Hot Bees! Thermal Cameras in the Apiary. Information on the behavior of winter honey bee clusters as revealed by thermal imaging. Presented by Dr. Wyatt Mangum, researcher and author. Dr. Mangum will have copies of his book, Top Bar Hive Beekeeping: Wisdom & Pleasure Combined, for sale and autograph.
This meeting will be in the auditorium of Blocker Hall on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan University located at 5817 Wesleyan Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23455.  Upon entering the campus, stop at the guard house and tell the guard you are attending a beekeeping presentation.  Proceed through the gate, turn right, and follow the signs to Blocker Hall.

February 12, 2018 - BroodMinder Data Interpretation. Presented by Theo Hartmann. Discover what the data reveals on the five hives monitored by Guild BroodMinders

March 12, 2018 - Introduction to Fieldwatch, a mapping tool provided by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to enhance communication between beekeepers and pesticide applicators. Presented by Keith Tignor, Virginia's State Apiarist.

April 9, 2018 - Making Splits for Swarm Control and Colony Increases. Presented by Dennis Heidenthal.

May 14, 2018 - Small Hive Beetles. Presented by Mike Embrey, University of Maryland Extension Apiculturist (Ret.)

June 11, 2018 - Harvesting Honey.  Presented by Pam Fisher
